downloading

i'm a bit scared that i'm starting to get my second wind now... when i really should be going to sleep.
it's almost midnight and i've worked 2 x 12-13 hr days... i was absolutely knackered so i decided to climb into bed cos it's nice and warm. so listening to music hoping i would fall asleep but my mind is still going...

some random things i've been thinking about lately...
- do i just get busy and get caught up in what i'm doing? does it mean i neglect listening to the things that are going on around me and does it mean i stop caring for people in the way i should??
so i thought about how i could be active in caring... how can i be remembering not to be self absorbed?? lol...
- last sunday's talk at church was about prayer... have been reading valley of vision a lot which is puritan prayers. love it...
the speaker talked about the fact that Abraham was challenging God to save Soddom. the way he spoke to God was bold yet humble. he approached God with reverence but his manner was almost challenging God.
some thing i was thinking about after the sermon was the nature of my relationship with God... like how i approach God and prayer and the types of things i pray for.
- i'm wondering why people seem to download on me at work. i find people with 'psycho-social overlay' problems very draining. am wondering how to deal with it without losing compassion. i've learnt to leave work at work but how do i move on while i'm still at work?? cos at the end of some days i'm just soooo exhausted. not physically but mentally.
- one of my interns tried to personality type me... i dont think he was totally correct... so i decided to take a myer briggs test online. i did it in yr 11 but cant remember.
my results:
I - definitely introverted. definitely need private/personal timeout
S - actually i'm probably somewhere in the middle of sensing and intuitive but lean more towards sensing
F - i'm also somewhere in the middle between thinking and feeling because i'm definitely quite logical but am ruled a lot by feelings, popular opinion and react to conflict
P - i actually thought i was a more of a J (judging) person but when i did this only one thing fell into that category.. the P part of me does like to multitask, i do my best work close to deadlines (eg starting assignments at 8pm the night before they are due...) and avoid committments that interfere with freedom and flexibility. but i'm a J person in that i do like to plan things (i just never seem to stick to plans and become disorganised)

Introverted (I) 56.76% Extroverted (E) 43.24%
Sensing (S) 50% Intuitive (N) 50%
Feeling (F) 61.76% Thinking (T) 38.24%
Perceiving (P) 51.28% Judging (J) 48.72%

ISFP - "Artist". Interested in the fine arts. Expression primarily through action or art form. The senses are keener than in other types. 8.8% of total population.

i must have a 'kick me' sign on my back...

well it's been a crazy long day...
worked at my clinic 8-11:30am then dashed off to mac uni eastwood clinic for my 12-8pm shift.

so was good to meet the 12-4 interns at the clinic. i already knew one guy from some fieldwork. it's a quiet shift and i'm not used to just sitting around so i decided to wander around to see what the interns are up to when they werent seeing patients. some were practising and so i sat in to give some feedback and learn some stuff from them myself. it's actually quite fun...
and i think the guys appreciated me taking an interest in helping them rather than just sitting around like other supervisors apparently do... but i get bored so i like to be doing. anyway... so i got to know some of the interns but i have no idea how i end up getting paid out so much... and i dont even know these guys... like first time i've met them and i'm already being paid out by them...
one of my regulars reckons it's cos i react... also i guess i'm friendly and take an interest so they kinda act like i'm just one of them...

but they are my interns!! so there should be some respect there!! cos otherwise i refuse to sign off on their paperwork and no numbers for them!! hrumph!!
lol... nah i'm having fun... just feel like i'm walking around with a big 'kick me' sign on my back... that ppl who meet me for 5 mins are comfortable enough to start paying me out!

anyway... was thinking about one of my previous posts about the rugby... and how i might need to learn to 'crude up'.
and i realised that no that's not who i am...
i think that what comes out of your mouth reflects the things in your head and heart... and i'm so not perfect in that area... everytime i read the book of James i feel challenged and the Spirit pierces my heart again because i know that i fall down in so many ways.
but i dont really need to add to it all by participating in crude jokes and i think i need to be more sensitive in what i do say even as a joke or pay out.

so i guess on reflection i'm glad that people feel comfortable enough with me to pay me out. and maybe i'll react because i'm innocent and that's who i am... but hopefully people can see that it's cos i'm a Christian...

what a week...

busy busy... i'm now feeling quite under the weather after a few late nights and eventful days... getting old methinks!!

last week was meant to be a bludge... monday off cos of anzac day. my normal wed off. and thur off cos i took it off cos it's my b'day.

sunday night my chennai superkings were playing mumbai indians in the IPL twenty20 final...
hehe ben had been bugging me before about liking CSK... his deccan chargers were apparently meant to knock out my CSK in the semis but they lost!! so deccan went into 3rd/4th playoff and CSK move to final against mumbai indians. Tendulkar was on fire so i guess MI were tipped to win.
i came home from church tired but determined... at 12-1am i was struggling to stay awake but after that it was awesome. dhoni and raina were awesome in posting 168 for CSK. MI came up short despite tendulkar making a quick 48. tactically they left their gun kieron pollard on the bench too long. but who cares cos CSK won!!
i'm vindicated in backing a team that i'm only backing cos i have a thing for albie morkel... who knows why just have a soft spot for him. he is an exciting t20 player though.
but at 6:30am monday morning i was still up... and still wired... still jumping up and down.

3 hrs sleep and i was due at chuck and hails place to finally play descent. i've declined all previous invites cos they were sun morning or arvo and i exercise then... hails said she was going to get me along and so with nothing else really on that day i went. interesting game. i liked using my magic and blowing up bad guys... fun fun... didnt stay for long cos i was sooo tired and catching up with cyn that arvo.

i think the tiredness started from the 7am bedtime on mon morning and lack of sleep....

thur 29th apr... my b'day... yay
usually i dont like b'days but this one i was determined to make the most of it. and God obliged me with a very nice day.
i planned not to work but had a few patients i just had to see... managed to do that early and then be out of there by 10:30am...
then went collecting freebies - free movies at hoyts, free boost juice... yay!
so i went to mandarin centre and saw whatever was convenient which ended up being 'the last song'. was an ok movie except for miley cyrus. no hannah montana for me!
met daph for lunch at sushi suma... reminded me of old days. callum was good and took formula and gave me lots of smiles so it made my day.
then back to chatswood for la premiere... saw iron man 2 which was meh... i think if i was into comics then i might have liked it better. just another action movie for me... but the free popcorn and drinks were good.
popped over to mum and dad's for dinner...

fri - i think i'm fat enough but my patients didnt seem to agree... today they came bearing food. i have no idea why. so i had cupcakes and yum cha goodies (cos one of my patients is a yum cha chef). out to the CT for dinner with marika and trace to celebrate my bday and marika's too.
girls piked on drinks... out to opera bar with clive and then ended up at ivy... soooo tired after...

sat - smak and millie's wedding... what to wear?? i have a heap of dresses i dont wear but still am indecisive on what to wear... maybe it's a girl thing... or maybe just me... i'm really indecisive!!
last week it took over an hr to get to kirkplace for rice regenerate... so left plenty of time... and ended up making it there 15 mins before but the place was pretty packed. i thought they might have trouble having that many people in kirkplace but it was all good in the end. was a very laid back wedding. lots of fun.
sooo funny... we were hanging around and ppl were saying 'go for coffee' and nobody could decide on where... and then by the time we said a place it was pretty much too late. we were on our way but traffic was bad so phoebs decided we would drive straight to the reception.
the reception was also a lot of fun. great to catch up with ppl i havent seen for aaaggggeeeesssss!! and the groove on the dancefloor was also fun.
mike's speech was hilarious... some of it i'd heard before (maybe at smak's 21st).

think smak and millie are a great match. the week before at rice i was talking to millie saying '1 week, 1 week!! are you excited?'
her reply wasnt 'yeah 1 week to the wedding' it was 'yeah in 1 week we'll be eating'... soooo funny... thinking about food... smak chose a girl with the same focus as him (apart from God of course).

this morning (sun) i'm feeling pretty tired... ended up waking up late. hadnt even looked at the music for church so thought a practise might be in order.
turned on the tv... that's what i love to wake up to on a sunday morning!!! merlin is on!!! a shirtless bradley james just made my day... i've seen the whole 2nd season though cos i have it already on dvd from the UK... bradley james... ok will shut up now and go watch...

Anzac day

ok i'm being cynical here...
i'm looking at the shows on tv during anzac day...
and comparing it to easter time.

i remember 'the passion' and even some other movies about moses and other biblical movies being on tv all though easter... this year... none... just lots of secular tv...

there are more war dramas being played at anzac day than biblical dramas at easter time. really cheeses me off... how did we become so secular. i mean why does australia celebrate easter if people just forget what it's really about?
this is me being very cynical here...

and i dont mean to be dismissive of the way soldiers gave their lives for this country. i just am making a point about the values of the country...

rugby... again

was ladies day at the rugby today 24/4/10... guys get to bring their significant others and ladies get a free glass of champagne while watching their boys smash each other... fun... fun...

still not getting the draw of running into each other and smashing each other to the ground with the objective of getting a ball to the other end of a field...
guy thing...

things that happened today... nice fracture/dislocation of an ulnar... it was kinda gross cos there was blood and the bone was nicely sticking out of the skin... just covered it with sterile swabs and waited for the ambulance...
the guy was really good and was telling jokes through it all... dunno if that was his coping mechanism or him being stupid with shock...

other thing that happened... and i'm shaking my head cos only guys would be so silly...
guy got wacked in the nose and had a blood nose... so the guys solution to the problem was to ask around for tampons cos they wanted to stick them up the guys nostrils to soak up the blood...
me - i got the guy to tuck his head and let the blood run out and then pinched the bridge of his nose and put ice on his neck... the bleeding stopped and we didnt need tampons after all!!
seriously... those guys must be watching too much of "she's the man" - the movie where channing tatum sticks the tampon up his nose to stop the bleeding after having a fight...
still shaking my head... only guys...

smbc talk - Christian wholeness in the midst of a depression pandemic

interesting talk tonight...
food for thought...

talked through some of the shapes of Christian wholeness...
http://www.christianwholeness.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=87&Itemid=113

also went through some of the DSM IV criteria for diagnosis of 'depression'
well i can say i'm not depressed... lol... prob the opposite considering i'm so la la most of the time... just cranky when i'm tired or hungry...

so i'm a bit too tired now to download all that the guy said...
these are my lingering questions... or not questions but ponderings...

- the link between anxiety and depression
- the incidence of depression is growing - why is that? i'm guessing environmental or lifestyle factors that have changed. but why? because of prosperity or we are a generation of more choices?

rugby

well an interesting twist to me working at mac uni is being seconded to mac uni rugby... considering i dont like rugby...

so i was emailed by admin to ask me if i could do rugby with another person. they were looking for staff with sports trainer qualifications. cos apparently there were other chiros willing to do it but they didnt want them because they needed sports qualifications.

i'm a little apprehensive just cos i cringe at the injuries that we might see... but anwyay...
so here's a little funny story from the first rugby game.. it's actually the 2nd of the season.
i got so lost getting to brighton le sands for the game... i had 3 male interns to supervise. so one of them promises to educate me about rugby cos i dont know much about it.

anyway one of the guys in 1sts got stomped and then was trying to run but with a foot on his foot he just managed to twist his foot...

so one of my guys was looking at his ankle and i was standing near his waist watching. then the team manager walks up and goes "dude are you wearing any underwear?"... the reply was no...
i dont see how it can be at all comfortable having all ur bits loose when ur running around... but anyway... i didnt see anything... when i had to look at his ankle i picked up a towel from the pile and draped him so i wouldnt cop an eyeful.

later when we were packing up we were separating towels and i mentioned the one i used to drape was clean. so one of the other guys asked why i had to drape... so i mentioned the guy wasnt wearing any underwear...
dunno how i manage to cop all the jokes...
this is what i got "i know we were teaching you to keep your eye on the ball but not on that ball...'

and i only came up with a comeback later... which would have been... "now i'm confused cos there's 2 balls... which one do i keep my eye on??" lol

ok a little crude but u know it's rugby guys... i think i'm gonna have to crude-up. and start coming up with faster comebacks...

misc words/lyrics/prayers

1.
I struggle through challenges in my life
When things dont seem to go my way
and things seem bleak and i'm down
and struggle to trust you day by day

I struggle with temptation and sin
and trying to do what is right
and it's easy to be down on myself
fooling myself to try as i might

C: So i ask you now for your Spirit today
to work within me to show me your way
may your Spirit guide me in the things that i do
Change my stubborn will so i can obey you...

2C:
so search me Lord
and change my heart
make me willing,
set me apart
to put to death the selfish part of me,
to be the instrument you made me to be...

meditation for today...

here is part of another puritan prayer that i'm meditating on today...

Spiritual Helps

Eternal Father, it is amazing love, that Thou hast sent Thy Son to suffer in my stead, that Thou hast added the Spirit to teach, comfort, guide, that Thou hast allowed the ministry of angels to wall me round; all heaven subserves the welfare of a poor worm. Permit Thy unseen servants to be ever active on my behalf, and to rejoice when grace expands in me. Suffer them never to rest until my conflict is over, and I stand victorious on salvation's shore.

Grant that my proneness to evil, deadness to good, resistance to Thy Spirit's motions, may never provoke Thee to abandon me. May my hard heart awake Thy pity, not Thy wrath, And if the enemy gets an advantage through my corruption, let it be seen that heaven is mightier than hell, that those for me are greater than those against me. Arise to my help in richness of covenant blessings, keep me feeding in the pastures of Thy strengthening Word, searching Scripture to find Thee there.

Easter 2010 #2

Today is easter sunday. We celebrate the fact that Jesus rose from the dead today. I'm loving the fact that I just have some time off to think, hear my own thoughts and meditate.

Had been looking at 1 Cor lately in quiet times. It was good timing to get to the end just before easter. I was reminded of the importance of jesus' resurrection. God's amazing power is shown in jesus rising from the dead.

When jesus died the curtain separating us from God was ripped apart. Sin was dealt with and we could approach God. but it wasnt the end... jesus had to rise again to show that death - the consequence of sin - had been dealt with. i'm flooded with a series of emotions - wonder, gratitude, amazement that God would keep His promises and act to save me.

Anyway... i guess i cant express it all.
this morning i was reflecting on a puritan prayer that i love so much. it's called 'morning' so i guess it was appropriate to be thinking about it this morning.
Pasted it below:

Morning

Compassionate Lord, Thy mercies have brought me to the dawn of another day. Vain will be its gift unless I grow in grace, increase in knowledge, ripen for spiritual harvest. Let me this day know Thee as Thou art, love Thee supremely, serve Thee wholly, admire Thee fully. Through grace let my will respond to Thee, knowing that power to obey is not in me, but that Thy free love alone enables me to serve Thee. Here then is my empty heart, overflow it with Thy choicest gifts; here is my blind understanding, chase away its mists of ignorance.

I'm just reminded of the gift of each day. Life is often a rat race of one thing after another. How often do i catch myself going through the motions and giving God little thought through the day.
I dont know how to put it all into words. I think it's the language used... loving God supremely... serve wholly... it's big and i struggle so much to do it... actually just to love a little and serve willingly can be hard sometimes...
and i'm glad the writer recognises that the power isnt in himself to do these things... that only God can do these things in him...
so my challenge is to let go and let God do these things in me... i dont find that very easy to do... especially in busy everyday life. and i thought that working a little less this year would help that but it hasnt.

well thank God for easter and the gift of Jesus...

Easter 2010

well i must say that this is probably the longest time i've had off in a while where i wasn't off somewhere on holiday and rushing around like a crazy chicken anyway...

this easter has been relaxing. i havent had much planned so i've just been able to veg out a lot, watch lots of tv or videos, catch up with ppl either via emails or some kind of IM and also catch up with ppl personally.

easter seems to have come around fast this year. actually the year seems to be just going so fast. i'm trying hard this year not to be cynical about things. it might be my imagination but usually on good friday the tv stations change programming and you'll have movies about the life of Jesus or movies with more Christian themes. with the advent of digital tv, these programs seem to have been relegated to stations like 7two or the like not the mainstream channels. makes me feel quite sad.
at the same time all i can see around me is people talking about bunnies, chocolate eggs etc.

so i decided to google the origin of easter... well actually it started with the origin of the easter bunny [which i'm still a bit confused about]. as with Christmas, a pagan festival time has been made into a 'Christian' holiday. i did decide on friday to stop being cynical and just remember and dedicate myself to reflecting on the real reason i celebrate easter which is Jesus!

what a crappy week... well more than a week...

feeling pretty crappy today... after a string of things that happened to make this week really really crappy...

this blog entry is gonna get a bit whingy so sorry but if u dont like whinging then dont read this...

where do i start...
hmmm last saturday 5th dec, 2009... i'm in the process of moving at the moment. have just bought a new bed, fridge, aircon from harvey norman. they were to be delivered on sat. firstly they called to say they were coming between 7:30 and 9am which is fine. i decided to sleep at the place on a mattress on the floor. i woke up pretty sore. and they ended up coming at 6:45!!!! so i was still asleep.
then the stupid delivery people broke one of the legs of the bed. and i was downstairs with one guy installing the fridge so i didnt know until they had gone and i went upstairs to look at the disassembled bed.
so i call harvey norman. totally hopeless. they did offer to send a guy around but not to replace it or anything. so anyway dad and i used liquid nails and some metal nails to put it back together.

so here's my total bagging of harvey norman. they are crap and dont do anything when their movers break your brand new furniture!

monday morning at work. a patient brought in her 1 yr old baby. crankiest baby i've ever met. she's never ever smiled for me. every time she's in she's cranky when her mother doesnt give her attention. anyway, the mum was in cos she had a bad headache (i'm not surprised). baby was crying so mum thought she'd come in and carry the baby. but the baby kept wailing so mum brought her back into the room. i asked the mum to get up and calm the baby down. but too late... the baby worked herself up so much that she spewed all over my mum and the floor and all over in my front treatment room. and it stunk so badly!!

today was the worst day at work. for the most part i enjoy what i do... but some patients just really ruin my day.
i have this one patient that takes the cake...
he walked in a while ago asking about consultation and charges etc. i told him about concession fees and he basically told me 'i'm not paying that. it's too expensive.' so i told him to go elsewhere.
i dont want to sound callous but basically i do have to eat and with the business loan i'm still not paying myself. compared to chiros around we are at the lower end of the scale for charges considering we do half hour consultations which are considered to be long consultations. the CAA recommends we charge 3 times the amount that we do for the time spent with each patient.

anyway so the guy went away and got a medicare referral from a GP. which is good cos it means he gets 5 free visits. today he came in for his 3rd visit. he basically spent 10 mins screaming at me. he said 'i have a bone to pick with you. last time i was in you spent 40 mins with me and the time before that it was just under an hour.'
so i said to him that our consultation time is 30mins as in we book patients in half hour blocks.
he said it's too short that he needs at least an hour. so i told him that's fine but i will charge him a double consultation. medicare will cover the first part and he needs to pay for the rest. he told me that's unacceptable. so i told him i could refer him to another clinic if he prefers.
he was going on about his chiro in the city that spent at least an hour on him and charged him practically nothing so i told him to go back to that chiro. the remaining medicare consultations can be transferred to that chiro. he wouldnt have it and i wasnt going to back down. so i told him he could try out other clinics in the area then. good luck to him because i know that we are the cheapest clinic in the area with the longest consult time (because we do like to be thorough). but we cant work for nothing. dont get me wrong there is room for compassion when i know somebody is doing it tough financially but this isnt the way to go about it.

anyway so he got me so worked up. i was so pissed off. i told him to go elsewhere but he insisted on making another appointment with me next week. i dont know why if he is so insistant that he isnt getting value for his money.
i trained for 6 years and still have a big HECS debt. i do deserve to charge for my services and dont think our charges are unreasonable. so he's one patient that i really dont want. i'm not backing down. it just really pisses me off and spoils the day to have him as a patient.
grrrrrrrrr i'm still so pissed off....

Sydney World Masters Games

SWMG wrap-up

9th Oct Fri - flew into syd at 7am... had to see some patients in the arvo. one was competing in the SWMG and i wanted them to be right to swim.
went down to sydney olympic park to pick up my uniform. there were no sizes left so i had to get a 10... which was slightly small... hopefully it will stretch... but i dont know if i'll wear the shirts again cos as nice as they are they have a big 'medical' plastered on the back. maybe i can use them professionally.
looked at the queue going into accreditation - apparently 3+ hours wait... really long! i dont envy the people in that queue.

10th oct sat - well my first day at hockey. an 8am start is 5am perth time... sooo tired! got there and reported into the venue supervisor as advised. they didnt seem to know what to do with signing in...
there are 2 hockey pitches - olympic which is the main and pitch 2. the original pitch was no 2 but when they built the whole olympic pitch and stadium for the 2000 olympics.
i popped down to the first aid room at olympic pitch where the chiros were setting up. but the sports trainer that got there before me was so bossy. he sent me over to the other pitch by myself. turned out to be a great move. was right on the side of the pitch in like a 'dugout' area. the two guys who were in charge there were stan and marty. lucky for me it was a pretty uneventful day. few people getting hit by balls etc but nothing really serious.
we got meal vouchers that you redeem at the canteen. a meal voucher is worth $12 and snack voucher $6. we hardly got to eat since there was only 10 mins inbetween games and 10 mins half time. so at the end there were food vouchers left over. marty gave me his voucher. so i went over to the canteen and bought $24 of junk food for us all to have the next day. i think the guys were happy that i didnt just take the vouchers and buy stuff for myself but got something for everybody to share the next day.

11th oct sun - at the hockey again. and made my way down to pitch 2 where all the fun people were. and today we were all sugared up!! today was eventful cos i did have a guy fall over and have a colles fracture. had to send him off to hospital.
we did the same thing today with the food vouchers... i came back with arms full of junk food. the lady at the canteen recognised me as well and prob thought i was a big pig! but cos none of us were there the next day we divided up the food.
went to the opening ceremony of the games.

opening ceremony:
meant to start at 5:30pm so i had to kill some time. the beginning was so boring - they had a police band that were good but i was still a bit bored. the athlete procession didnt start till 6:30ish then speeches. was quite funny... they had the chairperson of the organising committee SWMGOC, chairperson of the world masters competitions, and nathan rees premier of nsw. they were opening the ceremony. so the chairperson of the SWMGOC welcomed prince fredrick of denmark and the applause was so warm and loud that she had to stop to let it all die down. but when nathan rees was introduced to open the games, there was very loud boo-ing. i was killing myself laughing. the next day i was approached by an american lady who asked me why people were boo-ing. i had to explain that nathan rees isnt really well liked at all.

12th oct mon - a bit of a late start 9am at the main booth supervising the chiro students. and then my relief was late which made me have to run over to volleyball to start my next shift. just made it. the medical rooms overlook the courts at the volleyball. lachlan's team were playing and it was good that i finished early enough to watch the match. was actually an ideal situation. working as a sports trainer but i did also supervise the students. these students were really good and quite competent.

14th oct wed - well this was an interesting day. i was posted to the tennis which was at cintra park concord. basically the tennis was played at 2 locations - olympic park and cintra. the over 70's were at cintra cos it's synthetic grass and easier on older joints. i got there and was greeted by a st. johns ambulance lady #$%@#$%@#$%. so i get there and she says 'i dont know why they bother sending you people here'. in short she basically informs me that i'm just there for decoration - to show that there is a medical presence but really if anybody would be needed it would be st. johns people and i might get some strapping if i'm lucky. she was so bossy that i just had to get out of the room so i was helping put up signs and stuff. by coincidence i ran into mr and mrs leeder - hunter's parents. they were volunteering and working at the tennis... small world!

anyway cranky st. johns lady left me with 2 cadets who were med students. they didnt know what to do when a lady called J [name removed] came in with a strained left calf muscle. and i was thinking 'so can you get out of the way and let me (decoration) do my job'.

J was about to pull out of doubles cos she didnt know if she would injure herself more. worked on her and then used compression bandage to help support the muscle. she went back on to play. worked on her again after her game and told her what to do overnight to get some of the swelling down.

rushed back to olympic park cos i was rostered on to supervise the students at the volleyball in the arvo. but got a call at 2:30 to let me know that george portelli was wandering around asking to be put somewhere so he took my shift so i could have the arvo off. ended up going to the volleyball anyway cos vic was there with sacha. lachlan's team only lost 1 game and made it into the gold medal playoffs.
ended up playing with sacha most of the arvo. she's so cute but was a little cranky either cos it was past bedtime or she might have been teething. lachlan's team called 'jackie chan' won in 5 tight sets.

15th oct thur - at the tennis again in the morning. J was moving great today and she said she was feeling good. worked on her again after her match where she won a bronze medal. she was so grateful. she actually said to me she knows that we're all volunteers and so she wanted to give me something for helping her and she offered me $100. i told her i couldnt take it and said that it's my pleasure. the st. johns lady (grrrrr) then said 'oh we're all volunteers, i'll take that as a donation to st. johns' @#$@#%@#% it wasnt even offered to her. so unfortunately J was put in a tough position and forced to make a donation to st. johns.
oh yeh forgot to mention that this lady (in addition to calling me decoration) did NOTHING to help and.. she even told me off for doing my job. i think she was making small talk asking me if i had been busy. i told her about the broken wrist which was the worst injury. she then proceeded to tell me that it wasnt my job to attend to those things and that there should have been a st. johns person there. umm when the ref blows the whistle they call for the 'trainer' not 'st johns person'!!!! anyway she had a bee in her bonnet about how they didnt have a st. johns person at every venue. they only had a central hub at the main games centre. if they were needed then they were called by walkie talkie and then drove out to the venue. the minimum medical presence for most of the venues was a sports trainer - trained in first aid and also sports injury management so really more qualified than st. johns.

thur arvo - at the volleyball again. but i was so tired i didnt end up doing much supervising.

17th oct sat - at the tennis again. lucky for me that st johns #$%@%# lady wasnt there that day. but there was another st johns lady who must have been 100 yrs old (ok maybe i'm exaggerating a little). if somebody had a heart attack on court and needed her help i could imagine them dying in the time it would take her to walk over to help... anyway i wont bag her too much... she was nice... useless but nice (and they call me decoration...)
J was going really well and she brought her husband to see me as well as he had a sore shoulder. i strapped it up and later he told me it felt great when he was playing. was a pity that they came up against the top team in the semis but i guess that's the luck of the draw. the mixed doubles pairs in the other semis werent as good. anyway, J and her husband ended up losing the semis but winning the bronze playoff. she invited me over to the brewery but i didnt join. she did end up giving me a metal pin with New Zealand on it and some chocolates. the pin i'll keep sentimentally. was a pleasure to help such lovely people to achieve their best. J ended up getting 3 bronzes - 2 of them whilst i was working with her and she was very grateful.

18th oct sun - the only day i wasnt stationed around SOP. was at the basketball in the hills. absolutely hated it... americans are a bunch of primadonnas. 'i dont care if you used to play nba and i have no idea who you are!!!'
staff at the centre were really rude.
the other sports trainer there was pretty good and i was learning some new strapping methods from him.
anyway, what a bummer of a last day... it spoiled it really cos i was having such a good time...

closing ceremony - tumbalong park. wasnt as grand as the opening. but i just wanted to see. didnt stay for long as i was really tired and had work mon morning...

a successful games and a lot of fun for the most part. i liked working as a sports trainer... it's nice to be paid to sit there and watch sport (well for the most part - not the injury parts).

Perth

well 1st oct... i leave for perth and the fics conference... and the icssd exam!!
feeling quite underprepared for the exam.

1st oct thur - flew into perth, got my rental car. the hotel wouldnt allow me to check in till 2pm and it was around 10:30am! i was so knackered with not much to do. so i went for a walk around the city. there are actually these free city circle trams called 'cats' - 'red cat', 'blue cat', 'yellow cat'.
ended up at the dfo in perth to kill some time. i didnt really feel like shopping though cos i didnt want to spend too much $$.
dinner was the worst and most expensive sushi i've ever had... and walking around i realised that food isnt one of perth's strong points (not like melbourne)
spent the night in and slept early. the mantra on murray room was actually quite big and had a kitchenette where you could cook/microwave etc.

2nd oct fri - drove down to murdoch which was a nice easy drive. checked into the visitors units at the uni. quite nice. bedroom had 1 double and a single bed so sleeps 3. pretty basic bathroom. living room had kitchen and tv, couch etc. not bad for $75. i didnt want a late night but thought it would be good to hang out with people. most were staying in fremantle. went to the brewery called 'little creatures' for dinner. i had a nice ale though but a few sips and i was already going red. bit stressed about the exam the next day but got some tips - like know your concussion grading etc.

3rd oct sat - uni accommodation was booked up so i had to move to fremantle for the night. did the exam which was fine but at 6pm perth time (8pm sydney time) my brain was starting to go mushy. i was the last to finish... 150 multiple choice in 2 hrs but i did go through the paper twice. there was a typo that i pointed out after the exam and the cpr data was outdated as well... it asked how many breaths to compressions in a 1 person cpr. the latest is 2-30 but that wasnt an option. there were a number of concussion questions so good thing i studied it the night before.

got back to fremantle around 9pm. the b&b i was staying at had a spa which was awesome. got fish and chips and icecream - thought that would be nice to eat icecream whilst relaxing in the spa.
perth had this special event on called 'telethon' that i actually thought should have been called 'stripathon'. they do a 24 hr broadcast with celebrities and performances to raise money for a number of charities - mostly children's charities. anyway aparently it's traditional that around 10-11pm that people ring up and offer to dontate money if people will take their shirts off. most of the celebrities taking shirts off were from home and away and had ok bodies. one guy took off his pants and i was this close to ringing up to dontate if he would put them back on cos he wasnt one of those good-looking ppl.

3rd oct sun - the place is a b&b... and breakfast was basic but good. had a nice toasted ham and cheese croissant. turned on the tv and the telethon was still on... jack was on the panel in the morning so i watched some of it. i saw him the week before and knew he was going to be in perth for telethon. heheh i thought it might be funny to call up and offer to donate money if he took his shirt off. dont get me wrong it's not cos i wanted to perv it would have been funny to see his reaction but then if he knew it was me then he might get the wrong idea and i dunno whether he'd get my sense of humour. and anyway i guess sun morning is family viewing! not like the night before!!
last day of the conference... deb came up to me and congratulated me so i know i passed just dont know by how much. finished in the early arvo.
so i decided to go back to perth city to the convention centre.
there was a geek convention called GO3. lots of anime, star wars and sci fi stuff. special guests were a guy from stargate atlantis, star trek enterprise and chaske spencer who plays sam uley in twilight new moon. also went to check out the telethon. actually the sat disney guys were doing a childrens show and i thought of popping in and saying hello but ended up being a little late.
checked out fremantle markets which was really small. like it was a market but really disappointing... really only a few stalls.
nice leisurely drive to rockingham and safety bay cos i was staying with the mclernons for a few days.

4th oct mon - took a drive around rockingham up to point peron and then hung out at rockingham beach for a bit.

5th oct tue - took a drive down to mandurah and lay on the beach for the arvo reading a book. great idea for a holiday.

6th oct wed - drove back to perth city. mum asked me to bring back some otak so i trekked out to northbridge which is the asian precinct. they're wrapped in banana leaves but i had to remove them... lol the hotel staff might have been a little confused by all the banana leaves in the bin. my last night in perth at the mantra again.

7th oct thur - meant to come back to perth. organised a shuttle to the airport and was there at 1:30pm... my flight was at 3:15 so i was kinda bored. anyway, planed ended up being delayed. boarded around 4 and then when we were all boarded, we were told to get off cos we werent going to take off. the plane wouldnt make it back before sydney curfew. they rescheduled the flight back to 4am the next morning (7am syd time to arrive at 11am syd time). ended up getting on the red eye - midnight.
so... i had around 6 hrs to wait till the flight. so i caught a bus to the local shopping centre - lucky it's late night shopping on thur nights. found a maccas and used free wi-fi to kill time.
midnight flight... arrived back in syd at 7am (AEDST)

wkc

well i volunteered to help out at WKC on 26-27th sept. 1 week before my exam... lol i realised it wasnt such a good idea when i was frantically studying in free time.

but it was fun hanging out with the girls from st. pauls.

i must admit though being an usher at a Christian event was tough... people didnt want to listen and just kinda sat wherever.

i think one thing they did differently this year was they had a lady talk about the social issue of the sexualisation of children. i think a lot of people were shocked and very challenged. i must admit though that cos i dont have children etc, i found i wasnt really challenged by this wkc... reminded of some key things yes. i think i enjoyed engage a lot more.

John Farnham concert & SSO plays Star Trek!!

John Farnham concert
Fri 4th September. Lyric theatre.
Been looking forward to the John Farnham concert for ages.

The support act was a Melbourne guy... he had 3 acoustic guitars and a keyboard... very mellow acoustic stuff that wasnt too bad. It wasnt until after the guy finished playing that we realised he was being lifted down from the stool he was sitting on and being put into a wheelchair and he wheeled off stage.

then John Farnham came on... and i must admit that i love his band as much as i love him... chong lim, brett garsed, stuart fraser... the usual band... i also recognised stevie williams, angus burchall (with a lot less hair!), lindsay field and lisa edwards.
we were in the 5th row next to the speakers at the right of the stage so it was kinda loud. finished the night feeling quite deaf. i dont think lyric theatre is good for rock acts... musicals yes... but not necessarily acts that have loud guitars cos acoustics are crap.

funny things from the night... one lady gave JF a bra... prob her bra... only thing it must have been like a double G cup granny bra... JF was a good sport about it... was very funny... but i was thinking... if you're gonna throw a bra then at least get a nice lacy number or a bright string bikini...

JF has certainly put on weight... mum commented that he was fat when he came on stage. anyway he spent the night taking the mickey outa himself... the true Aussie way! so he said he had retired and it's been 3 yrs since he's toured... he tried to take it easy but he got bored. he was sitting on the couch reading gossip mags about celebrities going into rehab. he said "i didnt go into rehab but i went to a restaurant... and apparently stayed there for a while" - making a comment on his weight...
through the rest of the night he made comments about his loss of hearing in his old age... and lack of memory.

all in all i enjoyed the night and the songs. was quite short - only 1 1/2 hrs on stage but i guess he is getting older.

Sydney Symphony plays Star Trek: sat 5th sept

dad's father's day present. he likes syd symphony and i like star trek.
was actually quite good. there was a big screen with clips from all the movies.

first part - they played theme from 2001 space odessy, mars from the planets suite and the transformers theme.

second part - one theme from each of the 11 movies.

the conductor was actually quite funny. he did a bit of stand up comedy introducing the pieces.
he welcomed all the trekkies in the audience. he remarked that one guy had even worn spock ears... "what those are your real ears? oh sorry sir"
then he came out wearing the tos costume. he also referred to the brass section as the klingons and the harpist as an android.

checking out the program and realised row crowch from school was actually playing with the orchestra. which is kinda cool...

Engage

It's kinda funny... my first day after finishing up at my old job.
And i'm up at Engage where the talks are focused on young workers and working culture, relationships for people around my stage of life.

Feel strangely content with making the decision to cut down work. And faced with the money issues of not having that work and having to trust in God and His provision.

First talk this morning was by William Taylor. He's a middle aged gentleman from the UK with teenage/younger children. He talked about losing Jesus in our lives. Like being 'Christian' but without Jesus. Was a great reminder on focus cos I think at work you just go through the motions of doing and a lot of the time just forget who we are in Jesus.

Matt Chandler spoke on relationships. Kinda mirrored the talk from last year by Mark Driscoll. He made some points about guys growing up and becoming men... and for us girls to be patient and wait and dont compromise standards. I think that was important for me to hear. He mentioned a woman who was married to a non-Christian and her children had been coming to church but had decided to follow her husband. The heartache this woman felt i guess is something that you have to think about when dating or marrying a non-Christian. Sometimes it is hard for Christian women to wait for Christian guys to be interested and it seems to easy cos non-Xn guys just pursue you. Anyway... a lot to think about. But Matt Chandler was pretty emphatic about guys growing into the men God created them to be. Good on him for saying it so directly.

Last talk of the day was William Taylor at night. Again I think we go through the motions of work... everything is just so normal. but the world we live in is a dead man's world... where people are walking around... dead people walking around without Jesus. We were challenged to see the world through Jesus' eyes not our own eyes or through the eyes of other worldly people.

too much information

[edited]patients can be funny sometimes. had a patient with back pain he got from 'nocturnal activities'. trev calls it 'banger's back'. i guess i need to know how the pain started but sometimes it's just a little too much info...

packed to the rafters

i really like this show... at first i didnt but now i'm getting into it.

except one of the cast members really annoys me... i recognise the guy who plays jake... actually met him years ago and he's a bit of a tool...

was at ryan acosta's 21st. he was a guy that worked at target... and i think i must have been about 19 or 20... anyway we were at metro at north sydney and ryan had one side of the nightclub for his party.

ngi spotted this guy james...and recognised him from a tv show called 'breakers'.
so she dragged me with her to say hello cos she reckons he was HOT. james' friend heath who's also an actor off the show took a liking to me...

anyway i remember dancing with him before he tried to get too close. then i wasnt impressed so i went to the public side of the nightclub and he was following me around. and then i went back to ryan's party... he kept followign me around the whole night. so i ended up playing pool with tim... and then for the rest of the night i was stuck hiding from him in a corner with tim keeping me company...
